SCA Timber – Reliable safety even without mobile coverage

The challenge

SCA Timber employees often work alone and in remote locations, far from both colleagues and public services. This puts high demands on a safety system that must operate regardless of where the employees are, even in areas without mobile coverage.

Previous systems lacked the reliability and flexibility required, which meant that SCA needed a new solution that could both strengthen employee safety and enable fast, accurate emergency response.

The solution

SCA chose Crystal Alarm personal safety solutions for its field employees. The solution combines a mobile app, a staffed alarm centre, and satellite tracking to ensure that help is always within reach.

  • Safe return: By pressing the phone’s ON/OFF button several times, an immediate alarm is triggered.
  • Timed alarm: Used during solo work. If not deactivated within a set time, an alert is sent to colleagues and the external ARC.
  • Crystal Button: A discreet Bluetooth remote that allows alarms to be raised without using the phone – designed to minimise the risk of false alarms.
  • External alarm centre (ARC): All alarms are handled 24/7 by the external ARC, which acts according to SCA’s response plan.
  • GPS positioning: Each alarm includes precise, continuously updated location data, even when the user is on the move
  • Satellite tracker (SPOT Gen 3): In areas without mobile coverage, SPOT Gen 3 takes over. Fully integrated into the Crystal Alarm ecosystem, it works seamlessly with both Android and iPhone devices
  • Audio monitoring: When an alarm is triggered, the phone’s microphone is automatically activated, allowing the alarm centre to assess the situation in real time.

The impact

With Crystal Alarm, SCA now has a comprehensive safety solution that provides peace of mind for employees, even in the most remote areas.

By combining the app, satellite tracking, and a round-the-clock alarm centre, employees can always rely on receiving help, no matter where they are. For SCA, the solution has strengthened preparedness and created a clear, structured process for handling alarms, ensuring that every situation is managed swiftly and according to the company’s established safety protocols.

The result is a safer working environment for employees and the assurance for management that the safety chain always functions exactly as intended.
